The NBA has named the Finals MVP trophy after Bill Russell. Russell (briefly) broke down at the press conference before thanking his teammates. “We played a team game,” Russell said.

As the Boston Herald points out, Russell never won the award–the league only started giving it out in 1969, his last season. Jerry West received the award that year even though Boston defeated the Lakers in the Finals–the only time a player on the losing team has won the award, according to the Herald.

This is a fitting honor. Congrats, Mr. Russell.

Enjoy the skills competition, dunk contest, etc., everyone.
