Otis Smith Doesn’t Like Big Baby

If you believe anything an NBA executive says during the free agent signing bonanza, you can scratch Orlando off the list of possible Big Baby suitors. Here’s an excerpt from a press briefing Magic GM Otis Smith had today at the Orlando-based summer league, courtesy of Orlando Magic Daily, a member of the TrueHoop Network:

Media: Is Glen “Big Baby” Davis on your radar?

Otis Smith: Not today.

M: Is that something that could happen later?

OS: I think we like who we like. You can’t make us like who we don’t like. There’s been a lot written about who we like and most of it is not true. We have a tendency to like who we like, most franchises do, so right now he’s just not on our radar.

So there you go. With the Mavs reportedly chasing Shawn Marion in a sign-and-trade, the options for Davis appear to be dwindling. The Spurs are said to be in the hunt, but the guys over at 48 Minutes of Hell aren’t thrilled about the notion of Baby taking up DeJuan Blair’s minutes.

Perhaps Danny’s patience with Baby is going to pay off?

Oh, and perhaps the Magic don’t like Big Baby because of this:

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

  1. sheed, hill, baby and house would complete a very solid 9 man rotation. just need a point off the bench. have 2 be considered fave in east right now.

If we get him back, its great for us. Sheed backing up Perk at center, baby playing the PF spot in the second string. That’s a hell of a second string front court, would have to be excited about that.

But yes, we need a backup PG, I certainly wont be excited if Eddie House is filling that role.

i don’t understand: we’re going to sign Wallace-34- and to lose Davis-23! The first is on his worst season ever, the second is growing up every year. Danny, what are you doing? you have to think about our future, not only about the next year.

how about Eddie at point; Sheed at center; Powe at PF; baby at SF; and Hill at SG…that would be one formidable bench…you could still have another point and one more big man on the bench…

ok how about everything you all have said, the same, EXCEPT, i would switch hill and eddie’s role…, HILL point ..< better ball handler.. and eddie shooting guard..!??..hmm

Eddie is a scorer NOT a PG!!
Also I’ll take Sheed over Baby ANYDAY

…same players different roles…I can live with that…again one heck of a bench…
