Now, I could be completely wrong, but I can’t recall Magic Johnson ever being booed at the Garden. Actually… I think I recall him actually being cheered for on a couple occasions. Granted, one of those was during Bird’s retirement event, but still. Considering Magic was pretty much the face of the Showtime Lakers, one would think that he would be an icon for that which Celtic Fans are supposed to hate.

by “Fakers” I was referring to those fans of the Lakers who are Homerish. The are “Fakers” because they don’t care about the actual games or the players, they just care about saying how awesome the Lakers are and how awful the Celtics are. Don’t get me wrong, the Lakers are awesome, I just hate them and hope they lose. If the Celtics had a cool nickname I could adapt for Homerish fans I would gladly apply it. With respect to other teams fans it’s a situation where you have to give respect to get respect. I’m not going to dignify fans of rival teams who troll on this site. I will, however, have civil discourse with you, assuming you are in fact a Laker fan.

I hear ya man but watch a youtube clip of the Magic and Larry Legend fist bump and it gets you in the spirit of mutual respect.

Brenden – I appreciate the response and understand the distinction you make when you use "Fakers." I guess what I was trying to say, and looking back at it, I did a poor job, was that when I see someone using that or any other similar term about any team I can't help but lose some interest in anything else they are saying. And in general (not directed at you), I can't stand the level of vitriol that abounds the internet these days. It's why I appreciate this blog more than I do CelticsBlog and it's why, as a Laker fan, I appreciate the work done on Forum Blue and Gold. So keep up the good work and good luck on the "Homerism." It's a tough road to go down, and we never fully complete the journey. Oh and I hate Varejao too.

Hector- I'm not sure exactly what your point is. I can tell you that Laker fans don't want to be the Celtics, we're perfectly content with our team and our history. What's sad about your post is that I think there is a higher percentage of Laker fans that respect and appreciate the Celtics's accomplishments than there are Celtics fans who give the same consideration to the Lakers's. And after a while, the constant gloating and condescension begins to come off as fear and jealousy, and is not becoming. Hatred needs to be balanced with respect.
