"Basketball is a complicated game with a huge number of factors that go into deciding which team wins and which team is the Knicks." Funny you should say that. I was present at the game the Knicks beat the Celtics at the garden last year(the real garden, not the one in Boston).

There are a lot of ways to win at basketball. Pretty clearly the Celtics have made a commitment to getting back on D vs. going all-out for offensive rebounds.
If this thing is a problem, I'd expect it to hinge on two things: are the Celtics giving up more offensive rebounds than their opponents, and are they committing more turnovers than their opponents. I don't care about comparisons to other teams playing other teams, only about how the C's do in their games. It does seem like the C's had some stretches of horrible handle last season. It would be nice to see them take a little better care of the ball.

Also, good teams generate points by getting to the free throw line. It should be noted that shots that lead to free throws don't count as field goal attempts. Therefore, teams that get to the line a lot for high efficiency free throws will have fewer field goal attempts overall.
