So, given Ray Allen's dMULT being 0.872 and dQUAL being 0.122, and his opponent's PER ranking no higher than 12 at the SG position, and the Celtics giving up nearly 3 points a game, you could suggest that Ray Allen is an even better defender. By your metrics, he is arguably the best defender on the Celtics team!

And I know this is celticshub, but you could really do without the Kobe Bryant digs. It makes your article seem biased and has readers (like me), questioning your methods.

Sorry, I mean the C's giving up 3 points a game when Allen's not on the floor.

@Zack - I see your claim, both in the blog and comments section, that Kobe Bryant is the "undeserved winner" of the best defensive player as voted on by the 30 GMs of the NBA. Can you please back up this statement with analysis/stats? How does he compare to Rondo with respect to stats, basketball intelligence, experience, the ability to psych out his opponent, etc. Thanks.

Rondo is a nice player, no question about it - especially his penetration and rebounding.

But on defense, I wonder if these aggregate stats tell the whole story. If we're nursing a small lead at the end of a big game and Rondo's on the ball, I worry. According to my (admittedly faulty) memory, he has a hard time keeping his man in front of him and out of the lane. Am I just wrong on this? It's critical to the game, and while I'm asking a lot here, it's not too much to ask from someone being called an "elite", top-ten defender. Those are the players who can win games with their defense at the end, not just play very well overall.

No...rondo is not and could never be considered overrated ....People are hard on him around boston for reasons unknown to me, Pierce can be outplayed be Hedo Turkoglu in boston in a game 7, Ray Allen can shoot below 30% for entire series in the playoffs, KG can act like a classless buffoon cussing and grabbing his junk from the sideline, Perk still doesnt know how to set a proper scren, etc, etc , etc, etc...Yet all i ever hear is criticizm for rondo

he will be our best player this season
