are you kidding me , paul pierce one of the most over-rated players in basketball. do we need to remind you who his best players to play with was. what if pierce played with michael j, shaq, kobe, lebron james, tim duncan, and some of the best players in this league. as great as kobe is he hadn't won with out shaq. now paul gets some help and you say he couldn't win with out garnett. you think ray ray is over-rated could he have won with out either of those guys. i heard the media once say garnett cant get it done when hes playing with not up to talent players. you think t mac is over-rated one of the greatest players to ever play offensively. paul pierce destroyed lebron and kobe in that series, something you can neverr take away. ya hes great and dat aint nothing but the truth

Kudos on a well-reasoned post. My "overrated" post is not intended to discredit any player. It is meant to contrast performance with perception.

At the moment, Pierce has garnered kudos for sacrificing stats in favor of "winning". If we are to place a premium on "winning", and suggest that Pierce is doing more to win, at present, than he has in the past, it's fair to examine that past. w/r/t "winning".

As you more or less note, "winning" is a poor metric to use while assessing ability. The fact is that Pierce, a borderline superstar in his 20s, is declining, while the perception of his ability has improved to that of superstar status.
