Greg Stiemsma’s Contract To Become Fully Guaranteed

The C’s gave their 26-year-old rookie a vote of confidence before Tuesday’s game. By not waiving the seven-footer, Stiemsma’s contract will become fully guaranteed on Friday, allowing the shot blocker to breath a little bit and perhaps unpack some boxes for good in Beantown. Here’s Chris Forsberg of ESPN Boston with some reaction from Stiemsma and [...]

I Am Awesome!

Yes. This is a “pat myself on the back” post because a) I’m a jackass and b) I predicted something correctly. Back on January 8th, I predicted that the next ten games will tell us everything we need to know about this Celtics’ team. If they struggled, it was time to blow it up. If [...]

More on Baby’s Potential Suspension

AP

AP

UPDATE: Chris Sheridan of ESPN.com is reporting now that Glen Davis is undergoing surgery on his thumb today in Boston. No word yet, on how this affects his timetable in returning from injury.

Things look to have gone from bad to worse in the last 24 hours for Glen Davis as Zach Lowe reported earlier that according to Wyc Grousbeck’s comments on Fox25 this morning, a Big Baby suspension is likely. Tony Massarotti of Boston.com has more on the situation:

While Davis could contest the suspension, standard language in player contracts allows for teams to take disciplinary action against a player for fighting. Davis broke his thumb in an altercation with a former college teammate, according to multiple reports, and could miss up to two months as a result of the injury.

Grousbeck indicated that surgery to repair the break in Davis’s thumb was a possibility.

A really unbelievable turn of events here. Wyc also took a shot about changing Baby’s nickname:

“I’ve had enough of ‘Big Baby,’ so I’m going to start calling him Glen,” Grousbeck told the Globe.

Ouch. Thats sounds like someone who is fed up with an individual and rightfully so. This is a PR nightmare for the Celtics to have to talk about this on the day of the opener, where the team’s top figures have interviews lined up all over the place to promote the start of the season. A fight and suspension of one of their key contributors is something they surely don’t want to be talking about.

Luckily for them, the C’s are playing back to back nights to open things up here, and help distract people from this eye opening story. Between this and the Rondo extension talks falling through, I think we have had more real Celtics news in the past 24 hours here than the entire past month.

For more on how Baby’s absence will affect the team’s roster and playing time, be sure check out Zach Lowe’s analysis of the situation.
