I'm not so sure trading the #1 or #2 for KG would have worked. It seemed like KG didn't want to come here until Ray came on board and made the C's legititimately appealing (PP was just the disgruntled self centered odd ball that every one wanted to stay away from, not to mention Beantown labeled as a bastion for racist haters). In other words, Ray was step one and KG step two. In hindsight, I think the only way it could have worked is if the pick WASN"T a 1 or 2 pick so that the C's could justify unloading it for Ray and then giving up the young guns for KG (thanks McHale!).

Hard to imagine Danny wouldn't pull the trigger on a trade for KG. For sure, Durant and Oden looked like guys who might become franchise players in a few years, but KG was an *established* franchise player coming to a team with with PP and enough pieces to snag a third major player. And if having the 1 or 2 let Danny keep more pieces to play or deal – that would've been awfully nice.
