Did you all see Stan on opening night? I could not help laughing. They had the big build up of announcing the players, & everybody was excited. The crowd was going wild. Then, they said Stan's name, & he just sat their in a chair all sprawled out like he didn't give a flying flip. Dare I say it looked a little devil may care, Belichickish ?

@Eddy: The only issue I have is that I don't know who these experts are that disrespect the Magic. In that post I link to in the one you've commented on here, I collected a series of power rankings, season previews, TV appearance stats from the most well-respected writers covering the game--Hollinger, Ford, Thomsen, Aldridge, Stein, etc.---and they all rank the Magic with or above everyone else.

Anyone who knows about the NBA knows how good the Magic are. If some idiot columnists that watch 15 games a season don't get it, or if fans that still think shooting threes is dumb don't get it, does that really matter? People who know the league get it, and they've gotten it since about the turn of '09, I think.

I wouldn't say Stan Van Gundy is whining because he has a point. Just look at the annual NBA GM survey that was released before the season. Or the plethora of mainstream media sites. The majority of them aren't giving the Orlando Magic a chance to repeat in the East, let alone get back to the NBA Finals. The talk has and continues to be about Boston and Cleveland. That's the reality of the situation. Do people respect Orlando? Sure, but not to the extent of the other two teams I just mentioned. Look at something as mundane as opening night: the matchup was the C's and the Cavs, national TV, prime-time game.

What Van Gundy is trying to say (and I was there when he said it at practice) is that "experts" try to dismiss the Magic's victory over the Celtics because Kevin Garnett was absent for the series, a topic that's repeated at every turn. Rarely is it mentioned that Jameer Nelson was out, as well. I'm not trying to compare the two players, that's not what I'm doing, but I'm pointing out that Stan is making an observation. He's not whining.

It's easy to read a quote and interpret it this way or that way when you're not listening to the cadence of his voice or the tone in his message.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just tossing my two cents in.
