5-on-5: Predicting All-Star Reserves

I was a panelist on the 5-on-5 today at ESPN, choosing reserves for the Eastern and Western Conference all-star teams. I took two Celtics, as noted below. Hit the link to read the rest. 1. Which East and West point guards should be chosen as All-Star reserves? Ryan DeGama, CelticsHub: East: Deron Williams, Rajon Rondo [...]

Greg Stiemsma’s Contract To Become Fully Guaranteed

The C’s gave their 26-year-old rookie a vote of confidence before Tuesday’s game. By not waiving the seven-footer, Stiemsma’s contract will become fully guaranteed on Friday, allowing the shot blocker to breath a little bit and perhaps unpack some boxes for good in Beantown. Here’s Chris Forsberg of ESPN Boston with some reaction from Stiemsma and [...]

5 Questions With Kemba Walker

I had a chance to talk with Bobcats rookie Kemba Walker prior to the Celtics game against Charlotte on Tuesday night.  Here is what the UConn star, who is averaging 12.3 points, 4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game had to say. 1. How much communication have you had with Michael Jordan this year? Walker: [...]

I Am Awesome!

Yes. This is a “pat myself on the back” post because a) I’m a jackass and b) I predicted something correctly. Back on January 8th, I predicted that the next ten games will tell us everything we need to know about this Celtics’ team. If they struggled, it was time to blow it up. If [...]

Pierce Wins Eastern Conference Player Of Week

One day before he’s scheduled to pass Larry Bird for second on the Celtics’ all-time scoring list, Paul Pierce won the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award. Pierce averaged 22 points, 6.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds in four Boston wins, playing point forward in Rajon Rondo’s absence. Pierce is only 9 points behind Bird [...]

Garnett’s Wondrous 3-point Rant

Via ESPN Boston’s Chris Forsberg, who knows a great, playful rant when he hears one, here’s Kevin Garnett discussing his not-so-newfound aptitude for three-point shooting after the C’s took down the Grizzlies. “When I walk around the streets, y’all stop acting like y’all shocked that I can shoot 3’s. Everybody in Boston, everybody in the [...]

It’s June That Matters

evilsantaNow that I’ve arrived in the suburbs (Fairfield County, Conn., to be precise), eaten a delicious (and free) meal and drank a decent amount of tasty (and free) wine with the family, I feel ready to put Dec. 23 to bed and briefly summarize the injury status of three key Celtic players.

First, Paul Pierce: After getting his knee drained in what some are calling “surgery” and others are calling something other than surgery, Pierce is out for an unknown period of time. Guesses range from a week to two weeks, but, according to the Boston Herald, Danny Ainge called those ranges “huge guesses, though they’re probably as good as any.”

So…it’s not clear how long Pierce will be out. The team understandably does not want to put an upper or lower bound on his absence, and that’s appropriate—especially considering that erring on the side of caution and sitting Pierce a game longer than necessary is probably the right way to go.

Onto injury #2: Kevin Garnett will be a game-time decision on Friday, according to the Globe’s Celtics Blog (hat tip: Red’s). Here’s the money quote from Ainge:

“I don’t know when for KG,” Ainge said. “He may play, but it will be a game-time decision Friday. I think he’s fine — it’s not anything structural. He wanted to play (Tuesday) night but we’re being cautious.”

By all means, be cautious. Say it with me, everyone: It’s June that matters. Not December. Even if we’ll all be a bit crankier than usual around our families for Christmas.

Finally, the time table for Glen Davis has shifted back into early or mid-January, according to the Herald. A few days ago, it seemed possible Big Baby could play on the upcoming four-game roadie. Not now. Here’s the Herald:

Glen Davis, recovering from thumb surgery and expected to resume full workouts in January, is on the trip, though Rivers said Wednesday night that he doubts Big Baby will be activated so soon.

Let’s repeat it one more time, together, like the annoying carolers singing outside your house: It’s June that matters. Not December. (Side note: Are there actually Christmas carolers that go door-to-door in suburban neighborhoods anymore, or has this tradition vanished?)

So that’s it, unless Ray Allen fell off It’s a Small World tonight or something.

Happy holidays. CelticsHub will stay active throughout the holiday season, so if you need to take a break from playing with all  of your cool new toys, we’ll be here, chronicling the adventures of Scal and Shelden in Orlando.
