you think that's bad. I've been in Vegas when it RAINED! You would have thought it was the end of the world by the way the news was reacting.

There are some areas in Dixie where they just don't have the equipment to battle snow. Since they might only get a few storms here and there they never invest in it. I think in the North there is a whole lot more investment & experience with snow accumulation.

Now, in the deeper south, there is a sense of magic & even downright fear when there are some flakes flying around. Kids love it. Parents, not having veteran northern experience, can get panicky.

Having previously lived with snow I was shocked when I lived for awhile in Charleston, South Carolina. The forecast was for snow 'flurries' & many people were going ape. It was like a doomsday atmosphere down there. Everywhere you went people were talking with great trepidation about the massive snow (flurry) storm coming worrying themselves to death. The flurries came, & some snow even began to stick, but the most dangerous thing was not the snow. You have to watch out when you're driving. People going 15mph, slamming on their breaks, & the worst is trying to avoid all the chains which have fallen off of people's wheels, yes, they put chains on their wheels. You'd see cars all over with 1, 2, or 3 chains missing still trying to drive the speed limit with less than 1/4" of snow. I was laughing, but you have to be serious when you're driving to avoid all the obstacles.

If you think that's bad... I lived in Orlando for a year. Snow falling but not sticking tended to make them shut things down that were not considered vital. Pretty much all of Florida is like that.
