Final Grade: Avery Bradley (C+)

In his third year in the league, in which promising players often make brash leaps from benchwarmer to starter, from starter to star, Avery Bradley took a big step back. But his regression might be deceptive. When he returned to the Celtics’ lineup on January the 2nd after two in-season months recovering from offseason shoulder [...]

New Ink For Some Celtics

Can you make out what it is?

For NBA fans, the preseason means a lot of things.  It is really the first opportunity for fans to see what players have been working on to improve their game during the offseason.  It is also the first time fans get a good look at the players since the end of last season.

This preseason, Celtic fans were treated to some new additions to the Boston Celtics that did not show up in free agency news.  You may have noticed already (I know Tebucky has) but Glen Davis and Marquis Daniels have added some new tattoos to their respective collections.

I can’t quite figure out what Glen Davis’ tattoo is.  To me, it appears to be thematically religious/angelic.  Still, on TeeVee it is just too understated for me to figure it out.

Daniels’ new ink, on the other hand, is pretty obvious.

If you cannot read it completely clearly it says, “1090 Blokk Boyz” which is the name of Daniels’ hip hop group (listen to them here (NSFW).  In the song “Fast Break” there are a ton of Celtics references including Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, and Eddie House).  This takes self-promotion and loyalty to a whole new level.

In an interview Marquis Daniels did with David Acosta of Celtics247 back in July, Daniels was asked about his music career and was quoted as saying, “[I'm] helping my 1090 Blokk Boyz get da exposure they deserve cause the talent is there.” Daniels really went all-in giving his group this type of exposure.

On a more negative note, Daniels has caught some flak in the past about his and his friends’ choice of wardrobe color- a characterization Daniels has flat-out denied and I feel is unfair.  The controversy started when a sports gossip site published an unsubstantiated claim that Daniels was affiliated with a notorious street gang.  My knowledge of gang activity is limited to whatever the History Channel’s “Gangland” tells me and thus have no comment.

What I can say is that Marquis Daniels has never been charged with a felony (one that I can find on google anyway) and according to ShamSports Daniels has only two misdemeanors on his record.

If Marquis Daniels says he’s not “affiliated” than he should be taken at his word.   And as long as it is not getting in the way of him doing his job than his personal life should be exactly that- personal.

Now that that is taken care of, feel free to check out Marquis Daniels shopping, playing the role of meteorologist (starting at 1:36), and talking about his charity work in the recording studio.*
