Rondo Replacing Johnson on All-Star Team

The Herald got it right from Rondo’s agent. According to his agent, Bill Duffy, the Celtics point guard has been named to the Eastern Conference All-star roster, presumably to replace Joe Johnson, the injured Atlanta Hawks guard. This would be Rondo’s third all-star appearance. Nice birthday present for RR, who probably should have been selected [...]

We apologize if your comments are being deleted (provided that they are not offensive). We are looking into why this is happening. We also want to apologize for the lack of a game thread for last night’s game.  We had a premonition that the Celtics would play that poorly and thought if we pretended the [...]

Palate Cleanser: Celtics 119 Kings 95

ESPN Box Score • Cowbell Kingdom • Sactown Royalty

The Celtics wiped the sour taste of two-straight defeats from their mouths with tonight’s blowout of the Kings.

It’d be disingenuous to draw any conclusions from a win over the the third-worst team in the NBA, especially when it was missing its best player, and only willing to put up a half-game worth of resistance. Still, championship teams are supposed to pummel the also-rans of the league and that’s exactly what the C’s did in raising their record to 5-3 without Kevin Garnett, 17-3 at home and 29-9 overall.

Some of the many highlights:

  • Paul Pierce took advantage of nonexistent Sacramento defense to score a game-high 25 points on sizzling 10-14 shooting. He also chipped in with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
  • The bench got extended minutes tonight. They tallied 56 points as a whole, behind a forceful performance from Semih Erden who played 33 minutes and delivered 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 fouls and good energy. Marquis Daniels also added 12 points of his own.
  • The Celtics had 29 assists as a team, and knocked down 12-20 three-balls while holding the Kings to only 2-13 from behind the arc.
  • Even Avery Bradley got into the swing of things, knocking down a rare jumper and throwing down a breakaway dunk.

Two injury updates that we’ll talk about more in the full recap later on:

  • Jermaine O’Neal sat this one out with knee soreness/swelling.
  • Garnett will likely miss Friday’s game against Charlotte and make his return Monday against the surging Orlando Magic.

More later on, folks.
