Jeff Green’s 2012-13 Final Grade

Unless we’re discussing the eight or nine best players in the world, it’s impossible to separate a contract’s price from a player’s expectations, value, and overall performance. Jeff Green is the manifestation of this theory. In August he was guaranteed $36 million over four years, even though he didn’t play a single game during the [...]

Painful Reminders (Part I): The Celtics Drafted JaJuan Johnson Instead of Jimmy Butler

On June 23rd, 2011, Brian Robb and I stood around a high top bar table in Tommy Doyle’s in Kendall Square.  Before us lay one of the biggest mounds of buffalo chicken wings I had ever endeavor to make disappear.  These 25 cent flappers- one of the few indulgences afforded to the participants of our [...]

Chris Wilcox: 2012-13 Final Grade

There are a number of contextually-appropriate ways to craft this post. One would be to forgo words entirely, and represent Chris Wilcox’s entire season with a series of videos. That would involve one part of this: For every eight parts of this: Note the headline on that second clip. Someone was so amused/enraged by Wilcox’s [...]

Celtics Draft Buzz: C’s Interested In Moving Up For Vucevic, Looking At Butler, Tyler

As we are less than 48 hours away from the NBA Draft, speculation is beginning to pick up all around the league involving a variety of moves. Here’s the latest filtering around concerning the C’s this morning. We’ll start with a report from the LA Daily News that pegs the C’s as one of the teams in moving up to pick Nikola Vucevic:

NBA personnel said this week Vucevic will probably be drafted somewhere between the No. 9 and No. 17 picks, which makes it seem silly there were doubts he would turn pro a few months ago. “He’s moved up drastically during his workouts,” said an NBA general manager who did not wish to be identified. “A lot of teams like him now.” The Knicks are believed to be highly interested, along with the Houston Rockets. The Boston Celtics are even interested in trading up in order to select Vucevic, according to sources.

Count them as possible, but certainly not probable, as the C’s potential trade assets this draft (barring a blockbuster) consist of Avery Bradley and future draft picks. Now, if the C’s consider getting a young big that can help now as a bigger priority than whatever potential Avery Bradley might bring them, than you could certainly make the case for dealing the 20-year-old. Given how highly Ainge speaks on Bradley however, it’s easy to deem this possibility unlikely.

Here’s also the latest from Andy Katz over at ESPN, who’s plugged in well within the organization, regarding some potential favorites for Boston at 25:

Boston brought back Marquette’s Jimmy Butler for a second workout within a week, putting Butler in the mix at No. 25. The Celtics are also considering Jeremy Tyler, who played in Israel and Japan recently, among other places. Cleveland State’s Norris Cole has also been tabbed as a favorite among some circles in the organization. Cole has interest in teams like Sacramento if the Kings don’t get a point guard in the lottery.

A lot of likable names we’ve talked about at length earlier this week at CelticsHub. Stay tuned for the latest on any more rumblings around the rumor mill for the time being.
