Doc Rivers Finishes 13th in Coach of the Year Voting

Celtics’ 2011-12 Schedule Released

The full NBA schedule was released just minutes ago on the C’s team website. You can find it in full over there, but for now, here’s some quick analysis of the 82-game slate, which is fairly unlikely (to put it kindly) to be played in full this season.

The Celtics will open with the Cleveland Cavaliers (and top pick Kyrie Irving) at home on November 2nd at TD Garden.

Their first national game is on Friday November 4th against the Atlanta Hawks on ESPN. Overall, they will play 10 games on ESPN, 10 games on TNT, and four games on ABC for a grand total of 24 nationally televised contests. That doesn’t include six additional games that will be broadcast on NBATV.

A quick look at the overall slate has the C’s playing 20 of their games on a back-to-back. While that number is fairly average compared to the rest of the league (the C’s played 19 of these last year, which was bottom-third of the league in that department), they will play 16 of those 20 games on the road.

That is just a brutal number and is largely due to NBA national game scheduling combined with TD Garden conflicts (with the Bruins). Clearly, it’s the price you pay for being one of the NBA’s main attractions, while also sharing a building, but don’t look for the team’s paltry record on the second night of these consecutive contests to improve this year.

For a few more key dates to circle on the calendar, check these out, courtesy of Chris Forsberg from ESPNBoston.com:

Nov. 16: Boston at Miami (Back to where the 2010-11 season ended)
Dec. 1: Miami at Boston (Heat’s first visit to the Hub)

Jan. 11: Dallas at Boston (First meeting with the world champs)
Jan. 16: Oklahoma City at Boston (Kendrick Perkins back in the Garden)
Feb. 9: L.A. Lakers at Boston (Rematch in L.A. on March 11)
Feb. 12: Chicago at Boston (First meeting with Bulls; ABC Sunday broadcast)
Feb. 22: Boston at Oklahoma City (Jeff Green’s return to OKC)
April 18: Orlando at Boston (Regular-season finale at Garden)

More analysis of the schedule on the way later today…..
