(Video) Rajon Rondo Continues To Dominate In Postgame Interview

Rajon Rondo is a tremendous player, but he tends to have a little bit of an issue scoring the ball late in games. I won’t go as far as saying he is scared, but he does pass up shots and defer to teammates in crunch-time….well a lot. Last night though may have been his coming [...]

NBA: Hawks Should Have Had Free Throw on Last-Second Foul

Mike Fratello had it right: the NBA announced today that Al Horford should have been given a free throw on Marquis Daniels’s off-ball foul at the end of Thursday’s game. At the time, ref Eric Lewis ruled that Daniels’s foul had occurred after the throw-in, making him probably the only person in the arena who [...]

Game 6 Time Set For Thursday Night

Boston will face off with the Hawks on Thursday night at 8pm at TD Garden. The broadcast can be seen on TNT or CSN locally. There was a risk that it would be a 6pm tip for Boston-Atlanta, if the Nuggets failed to extend the series last night against the Lakers. That would have created [...]

Atlanta Shakes Up Starting Five For Game 5

Desperate times call for desperate measures and after a blowout in Game 4, Atlanta’s head coach Larry Drew is going to shake things up a bit and add some bulk to his starting five at each position. DET 98, C’s 88: Detroit Rock ****ty

Detroit Pistons 98        FinalRecap | Box Score 88 Boston Celtics
Chris Wilcox, PF 26 MIN | 5-6 FG | 1-3 FT | 9 REB | 1 AST | 11 PTS | +4
An actual bright spot. Fun to watch, and probably fun to play with for Rondo; Wilcox should be seeing more time even when KG comes back. He’s not as tall as Jermaine, but he’s about as capable on defense because of his speed.
Paul Pierce, SF 37 MIN | 4-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 2 AST | 9 PTS | +9
Very confusing of Pierce to pick a night when KG was out to completely remove himself from the offense for an entire half. He just hung out on the wing, a total waste of floor space. If he’d involved himself more, they could have had a larger lead at the half and a closer game at the end.
Kevin Garnett, PF 29 MIN | 5-8 FG | 3-4 FT | 12 REB | 3 AST | 13 PTS | +16
KG, by no fault of his own, lost this game by not playing. He means more to the defense than any of us understand, and a surprising amount to the offense, as well.
Ray Allen, SG 35 MIN | 3-9 FG | 4-4 FT | 0 REB | 2 AST | 11 PTS | +3After not aging at all for four years, Ray appears to have aged all four of them in the last week. It’s like he broke a curse.
Rajon Rondo, PG 40 MIN | 11-22 FG | 10-13 FT | 10 REB | 15 AST | 32 PTS | +8
27 shots, but if the whole team had shot like he did Boston would have blown this game out. Even his jumpers were falling. His defense was iffy, but when you set a career high in scoring, you get the highest grade.
Keyon Dooling, PG 9 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 PTS | -6
Just not good defensively.
Mickael Pietrus, SF 19 MIN | 1-1 FG | 0-2 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 3 PTS | -4
Once charmingly stupid, Pietrus’s shot selection is starting to be my least favorite thing about anyone on this entire team. It’s getting to the point where you can’t give him the ball in three-point territory, which is the only place you can ever find him on offense.
Greg Stiemsma, C 5 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 PTS | -5
Eh!
JaJuan Johnson, F 33 MIN | 6-13 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 12 PTS | -1
My pregame prediction was 14 points on 6-11 shooting and six boards. A-minus for me!

Four Things We Saw

  1. A waste of a spectacular scoring display by Rajon Rondo.
  2. A totally inexplicable no-show from the only members of the Big Three on the floor.
  3. The bench letting the game get away against a bad team that’s still deeper than the Celtics.
  4. The giant hole in the defense left by Kevin Garnett. Nobody knows what to do without him.
