Celtics to sign D.J. White for Remainder of the Season

It’s decision day on D.J White for the Boston Celtics. With his second 10-day contract expiring yesterday, in order for the team to keep the big man, they must sign him to a contract for the remainder of the season. According to a report from our friend Jessica Camerato of CSNNE.com., that’s exactly what the team plans on doing today.

White has just played in four games thus far for the C’s, posting averages of 2.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game but remains a competent NBA big man, at least on the offensive end. As he becomes more familiar with the C’s system, he should get a bit more run down the regular season stretch this season, especially if Doc Rivers elects to rest more players.

The Celtics also announced yesterday that White was on the team flight to New Orleans (with KG and Shavlik Randolph) further confirming suspicions the team intended to sign him to another contract. Speaking of Randolph, the big man’s second 10-day deal is expected to expire after tonight’s game as well. With no new appealing free agents becoming available, combined with a solid outing by Randolph against the Bobcats, look for Randolph to sign for the remainder of the season tomorrow with Boston.
