Report: Thibs Turns Down Hornets Job & C’s Injury Updates

June 3rd, 2010

A busy morning here for the C’s as we await the start of game 1 and we start with the NBA’s hottest coaching candidate, Tom Thibodeau. Here is the latest this morning from The NY Post:

The Post has learned Thibodeau yesterday rejected a Hornets offer that has been on the table for almost a week.

Sources also said Thibodeau, credited as Boston’s defensive mastermind, is almost guaranteed to wind up with the Bulls, whom he met with two summers ago but lost out to Vinny Del Negro.

There also also multiple reports out there, signifying that Thibs is a front runner for the New Jersey job as well, and that Chicago has flown out to LA to interview Thibs.

Again, a lot of speculation at this point and a smart move by Thibs, in my mind, to turn down the NO job. He’s clearly going to get another offer from somewhere and his stock can only be helped during this Finals run.

Plus, there’s that question of whether Doc Rivers will be back in Boston next year or not. A Championship may increase the chances of him skipping town, so why wouldn’t you wait around if your Thibs, just to be sure.

Injury Updates on Sheed, Rondo, Baby, & Daniels

May 31st, 2010

A quick report on the C’s first official practice in Waltham, since they defeated the Magic Monday night. Only Paul Pierce and Doc Rivers addressed the mob of media (including myself), before the team was to depart for LA at 3pm this afternoon on the team charter. There was a lot of talk from both The Truth and Doc about the rivalry between the C’s and Lakers, as well as the the differences between now and 2008 for both sides, among other things.

First things first though, let’s get to the injury report from Doc. Let’s get the bad news out of the way first.

-Marquis Daniels is out indefinitely with a concussion. According to Rivers, “”Marquis is out, I don’t know if it’s the whole Finals, but right now he’s out.”

The opening in the active roster should again bode well for all you Brian Scalabrine fans out there (myself included), who will be the one to dress until Daniels can go. Don’t kid yourself though people about Scal. That guy didn’t see the floor in the 2008 finals run, and this team is better than that. Still it would be fun to see him come in and knock down a garbage time three before this series is over. Daniels injury really doesn’t hurt Boston here

-Rasheed Wallace is still hurting and is the team’s main concern right now on the injury front, besides Daniels. Here’s Doc again:

”Rasheed is not right yet, he did the skeleton offense stuff, but other than that, we didn’t allow any contact. So if we have a concern right now with anybody, Wallace would be the only one.”

The rest should help Sheed, but a cross-country plane trip probably won’t deal anything to help a cranky back. He gutted it out well in game 6 and will almost assuredly look better on Thursday, but this sounds like something we are going to have to monitor all series long.

Injury Watch: Updates on Lebron, KG, Perk

May 6th, 2010

Three day breaks in between playoff games allow for plenty of storylines to develop and with that in mind, let’s take a quick look at all the injury updates, starting with Lebron.

First, we have a report from our TrueHoop friends over at Ball In Europe telling us, that they have a source telling them Lebron’s injury is much worse than believed:

The bombshell: A source close to the Cleveland Cavaliers who wished to remain anonymous has admitted that LeBron James should not playing with his injury in its current state. Apparently, the damage is enough that the right arm of King James – perhaps that should be “King Richard III” for the nonce – is having great difficulty in carrying anything heavier than a basketball.

The extent of the injury has been thus far been publicly diagnosed as “sprained elbow and bone bruise,” but with MRIs aplenty, a left-handed free throw attempt, and a 24-hour disappearing act in the very recent future, the tension builds over the MVP’s physical ability to play. Even after a “sudued” 41-minute, game-high 24-point performance.

The guys over at BIE stand pretty strong behind the report, so take it for what it’s worth. With that being said, Brian Windhorst, the best Cavs beat guy out there, confirms that the Cavs have shelved plans for another MRI on the elbow, via his twitter account earlier this afternoon. What that lack of an MRI means exactly, I have no idea, all I can say is I can’t wait for game 3 to come so some of this speculation can end.

Rondo Sent to Hospital With Flu-Like Symptoms

April 16th, 2010

Just when you think the C’s are “healthy” we get news like this reagarding Rondo’s condition, Via ESPN Boston’s Chris Forsberg: The meat and bones of Forsberg’s reports are as follows:

  • Rondo was at the team facility today and went through filmwork and a walk through with the team before being sent away.
  • Rondo was sent to the hospital for some IV work.
  • Doc on Rondo’s condition, while expecting him to play in game 1: “I don’t know how he’s going to feel. I don’t anticipate him feeling great. He’s throwing up and all that.”
  • Glen Davis and Tony Allen are also still battling the flu. TA practiced with the 1st team in Rondo’s absence.

So all bets are that, when we see Rajon Rondo tomorrow night, it won’t be at 100 percent, leaving Doc Rivers in a tough predicament as far as this team’s offense goes and managing minutes. The good news is thanks to NBA’s quirky playoff schedule, the C’s get 2 days of rest in between both games 1 and 2, as well as games 2 and 3. That gives this flu plenty of time to run it’s course hopefully and exit the Celtic locker room, while giving those affected plenty of rest.

Stay tuned for more updates on Rondo’s condition

Well, That Explains A Lot: Perk’s Tendinitis Bothered Him For Months

March 30th, 2010

More news is coming out of the C’s practice this afternoon in Waltham. Besides the Pierce injury update, Kendrick Perkins spoke for the first time after sitting out the past two contests with left knee tendinitis. Upon questioning, Perk shed more light on the extent of his knee trouble these past couple months. Chris Forsberg of ESPNBoston.com provides us with the details in his terrific practice report:

“I felt alright, I thought I played pretty good at practice today,” said Perkins. “My knee felt better. I’m looking forward to going out there and playing [Wednesday].

“There’s a little bit [of stiffness]. It’s probably something I’ll have to deal with the rest of the season. I’ll continue to get treatment, continue to come in at night and get that treatment.”

Perkins also admitted he’s been battling the tendinitis for as much as two months before he finally took the advice of Rivers and the training staff and shut it down for the week. Perkins admitted it’s affected his game.

“I can’t get up and block shots like I want to, I can’t get up for the rebounds,” said Perkins. “But I’m out there, so I gotta get the job done. So I’m not making excuses, but I think it has [affected his play] in a way.”

And that’s why we love Perk. The guy refuses to make excuses for himself. This is also a bit of a relief if you are a Celtics fan, since well, it explains a lot about Perk’s performance, the last two months. Let’s check out his month by month splits for further confirmation.
