Memory Lane: Delonte & The Truth

September 2nd, 2010

Back at the end of the 2005-06 season, Delonte West and Paul Pierce filmed a segment over at Fox Sports Net (Now CSN) together breaking down their own fashion styles and discussing the team’s prospects for the upcoming season.

The five minute interview’s highlights include Delonte discussing “future All-Stars” Tony Allen and Al Jefferson, (2 minute mark) and Paul Pierce anticipating a trip to Europe (3:30) to scout for the team’s trip there for next year, that we all know will go down in history.

An entertaining few minutes if nothing else, and you have the sense that both West and Pierce genuinely get along here. You know Danny wouldn’t have brought in West without the blessing for the key members of his roster, so it’s apparent here just how comfortable Delonte was in Boston back then. Here’s to hoping he can return to that place next season.

A Reminder About Celtic Pride

June 17th, 2010

Bill Russell before Game 7 of the 1969 NBA Finals:

“There’s a lot of things that have gone on, but one thing can not go on. The Lakers can not beat us. It’s not something that can happen.”

Great Moments in Celtics-Lakers History: Toine’s 3

June 1st, 2010

In honor of the buildup to what will surely be another epic NBA Finals between the Celtics and Lakers, we here at CelticsHub will be looking back through the rivalry daily, to bring you some of our favorite memories. Most of them will be positive memories for C’s fans (hey, what do you want from me? This is a Celtics blog) but we will mix in the good and bad all the way through.

To kick us off, we turn back to a regular season affair back in February of 2002. The Lakers were enjoying the peak of the Shaq-Kobe era, while The Truth was carrying a resurgent Celtic squad back to being a contender once more in the Eastern Conference. The clip starts with the Lakers nursing a 104-102 lead, with the ball and just over a minute left.

Plenty of familiar faces to go around, in what is maybe, my favorite C’s-Lakers regular season matchup of my lifetime. I think my parents are still mad at me for the victory lap I did around the house, waking them up at 1:30 a.m. after the Walker drilled that 3. Enjoy.

“No Basket! Celtics Win!” How Instant Replay Helped The C’s Beat LA

November 11th, 2009

With all the hoopla surrounding instant replay and the Brad Miller non-buzzer beater last night in the Bulls-Nuggets game in Chicago, I figured it would be a good time to take a stroll down memory lane.

The year was 2002 and the Celtics were up against the Defending Champion Lakers. Kenny Anderson and Antoine Walker led the way with a young Paul Pierce for the Green against Shaq, Kobe and company, a year after Shaq had given PP his “Truth” nickname. The Celtics had battled all the way back from a double digit deficit in the final minutes of the 4th quarter in The Staples Center, bringing us to a riveting conclusion.

The clip shows the final two minutes of the contest, including an replay review of Kobe’s final shot, which was just as close if not closer to the buzzer than Brad Miller’s was from last night. You guys can be the judge on that.

In any case, I have had this clip stored in my YouTube favorites for awhile, so now seems like as good of a time as any to break it out. The non-buzzer beater takes place at 1:29, but in all honesty, the entire 3:30 clip is worth watching from Toine’s bank 3 giving the C’s the lead with 1 second left, to the C’s giddy celebration to the locker room when the final shot was ruled to be no good. Enjoy.
